rule of the bone # 6

This "birthday" party for Bone turned into an excuse for Evening star to throw a crazy party. It seemed like everyone was havign a great time, the only problem was it wasn't a birthday party. Sure there was a sign and some balloons, but really that was all; no cake or candles. They put very little thought into making it for Bone. Its hard because he finally has a type of stable life with a family and he just wants a normal birthday party. The people care very little about his well being. He lives in an environment in which they just like to party and get high. On the outside, this is what Bone wants, but he is just a kid and wants a what kids his age want. Papa Doc is focused mainly on himself. He cares about his own stuff and is addicted to coke.
Evening Star put on a great party. There were tons of people there and everyone seemed to be havign a good time, but not Bone. I thought though that she would have at least made him a birthday cake or something. I think though that she has so many different personalities that she may be unpredictable and i am unsure of what she will do next. Its also hard because Bone is starting to get a real relationship with his dad. Now, Bone is actually creating expectations for him. He starts imagining his dad going up and saying this amazing speech, which is a farfetched fantasy. This party reveals that Morning Star and Papa Doc aren't ready to be parents because of their lack of care for Bone. Up until this point they have not had many responsbilities, but now they have to force themselves to.

Rule of the bone #5

Read Chapter 11 "Red Rover"

Rule of the Bone is a coming of age novel in regards that the main character, Bone is able to discover himself and learn about the world throughout the course of the book. He grows up and as a result of the many experiences that he has with the people he meets, he is able to discover a lot about himself and the world. This is especially true when he meets IMan and becomes sort of his student. "I'd smoke a fatty in the bathroom and watch MTV with Willie until I fell asleep." This is a good example of Bone at the beginning of the novel. He is nieve and does not yet understand the world he lives in.
"From dealing to stealing, man. I mean, which is better? Think about it. They're both f-ing illegal so which is better? Didn't your parents teach you anything?" Bone begins to develop his own set of values. He is exposed to the harsh side of life and has to make a choice if he is going to become a criminal, or choose to make his own path.
"The day the bus went off a cliff and crashed in a quarry. A shitload of kids were killed, man." This talks about the mystery associated with the bus. Bone is able to learn about the bong brothers and experience all sides of life from an outside perspective.
By observing all the different sides to life and the different lifestyles, Bone is able to pick and choose which is right for him and not just follow what others do. He is able to discover alot about himself.

When lost my dog, i realized then and there that something so close and important to me was so vulnerable. I had loved my dog and was heartbroken when she died. I learned that nothing is forever and i had to deal with loss.
A similiar sadness i felt was when i left Los Angeles and moved to the Bay Area. I had to leave all my friends and was forced to grow up quicker and make new relationships earlier than i had wanted. But that is life: You dont always get to choose what ends up happening to you.
